   The Dragonfly

IMATGE-LANDING.jpg

The Bike

The Dragonfly brings a completely new approach to Trials bike design. Starting with a vision and throwing out the old, the Mecatecno team has created what some might call the PERFECT trials bike. Significantly lighter than any other trials bike (ICE or Electric) at 60kgs and with a perfect 50/50 weight balance, the Dragonfly lives up to its name in terms of agility and performance.

With perfect balance (30kg front, and 30kg rear), the center of mass is located right in the middle. With its center of mass held as low as possible it is far less fatiguing, easier to control and much more nimble to ride.

Just think – its 20 to 30lbs lighter than everything else currently on the market.

The Dragonfly's frame is made using CFA (Combined Frame Assembly) technology. This method of combining different materials provides the perfect combination of rigidity and flexibility resulting in improved feedback to the rider.

In addition, aluminum parts such as the swingarm are designed and engineered using the latest aerospace standards (Solderless assembly system) to provide rigidity but also the best rider feedback without compromising the overall weight and performance.

Mecatecno have designed a bespoke (Motor) for the Dragonfly, specifically designed, prepared, and tested for competition. Striking the all-important balance between, weight, strength and range. Its lighter, simpler, easier to service and offers much better range than the competition.

Created from scratch, the Mecatecno electric motor is not an off-the shelf product. At less than 15cm diameter and 4 kgs of weight, it is capable of providing more than 15Hp at almost 10.000rpm.

To harness that energy and make it feel familiar to traditional bikes it has a full 5 plate diagram clutch. Similar to those in TRS, GASGAS or Vertigo, and can be tuned for specific rider needs.

The Components

Perfection is the norm. S3 Hardrock aluminum footpegs, handlebars, and bar pad; Ohlins TTX22m.2 rear damper; and M4 Oil and Hydraulic front forks form an elite assembly of components. M4 Parts engineers the lightest trial fork at 3,784 grams, a pneumatic marvel by Nani Racing, crafted from high-density aeronautical aluminum with M4 Parts' exclusive system for unparalleled resilience. Its integrated dust seal system in a single cartridge offers superior protection and reduces maintenance, ensuring a smoother ride. The bike boasts genuine Galfer brake discs, Braktec brake master cylinders, and EVO4 front brake calipers—premium choices usually reserved for top-tier ICE bikes, underscoring its exceptional performance and style.

My First Impressions

Spring of 2023 I went to Spain to ride the Ricardo Tormo circuit (different bike obviously). I also took the opportunity to visit Jordi and the Mecatecno team just outside of Barcelona. They walked me through the design, construction and assembly process and then we went out to the riding area to test the bike.

The first thing you notice is its looks – it’s a bit odd, but not in a bad way, just different.

Then when you start it, its what you don’t notice that grabs you! “No Noise and No Smoke”

Then when you throw a leg over it and twist the throttle, that’s when you know you’re on something special!

At the lowest setting, it’s fairly soft and forgiving. Switch it into the red setting and you had better hold on. It’ll squirt out from underneath you faster than you can react! Your mind will wrestle with itself… this thing has jam, but it’s so light! Geeze it really hooks up, holy crap this thing is light! You get the point! Needless to say, after riding it, I was sold!

I wanted one,  and I think once you ride one. You will too!

That’s why I brought them to Canada.
